Enhanced rainfall is expected over northern regions of South Sudan, western Ethiopia and parts of eastern Tanzania. According to the Igad Climate Predictions and Application Center (ICPAC) in its weekly forecast.
The forecasts indicates that a reduction of rainfall is expected in the rest of the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA) counties.
Moderate rainfall of between 50-200millimeters is expected over most parts of Rwanda, Burundi, eastern Tanzania, south-western Ethiopia and northern South Sudan, while light rainfall of less than 50 millimeters expected over most parts of Tanzania, South Sudan, eastern and southern Kenya, southern and northern Somalia, southern to western Uganda, southern Sudan, and western Ethiopia.
According to the climate scientists at ICPAC, more than usual rainfall is expected over parts of northern South Sudan, western Ethiopia and eastern Tanzania, “less than usual rainfall is expected most parts of Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and southern regions of South Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia.”
They warn that elevated temperatures exceeding 32℃elsius are expected over parts of eastern South Sudan, Afar region in Ethiopia and southern regions of Sudan, “moderate to high temperatures of between 20 and 32℃elsius is expected over most parts of the GHA.”
“Elevated heat stress within the ‘extreme caution category expected over most parts of South Sudan, eastern parts of Kenya and Tanzania, southern to central Somalia, north-eastern Somalia, coastal regions of Eritrea and southern regions of Sudan,” warns the Weatherman at ICPAC.
Mild temperature conditions of less than 20℃elsius are expected on most of the highlands across the GHA including over parts of northern Sudan, eastern parts of South Sudan into western Ethiopia and other highland areas across the GHA.
