The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) is pleased to invite you to the kick-off meeting for the African Research Initiative for Scientific Excellence – Pilot programme (ARISE-PP), to be held from 15th – 17th June, 0900hrs to 1600hrs (East African Time) at Radisson Blu Hotel, Upper Hill in Nairobi, Kenya.

The opening session is open to the media on 15th June 2022 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, East African Time.

The ARISE-PP is a €25 million programme supporting 44 early- to mid-career African researchers from 38 countries in Africa with research grants of up-to €500,000 to implement 5-year cutting-edge research projects in contribution towards the transformation of Africa into a knowledge-based and innovation-led continent. The programme is implemented by the AAS with support from the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU). The meeting will convene the ARISE-PP Fellows and other stakeholders to officially launch the ARISE-PP Fellowships.

The ARISE-PP Fellows shall introduce their research projects, generally categorized into the following thematic areas:

· Public health

· Green transition

· Innovation and technology

· Capacities for science and higher education

We welcome you to join us on this auspicious occasion as you meet and interact with the ARISE-PP community including the 44 ARISE-PP Fellows, delegates from the European Union and African Union, and other high-level stakeholders aligned to scientific research in Africa.

Some of the ARISE-PP Fellows being inaugurated will be conducting their fellowship in your country.
