The Federation of African National Insurance Companies, (FANAF) is looking forward to organize the General Assembly on Insurance for All in Benin from July 6th to 8th, 2026 with a major Pan-African gathering that’s dedicated to inclusive awareness.
According to FANAF President, Mamadou Kone, Sustainable growth in Africa cannot be achieved unless stronger protection mechanisms are put in place for its populations, businesses, and investments.
“Africa cannot build sustainable growth without strengthening protection mechanisms for its populations, business and investments,” Kone says, “The Cotonou General Assembly must mark the starting point for a new continental ambition for African insurance and its role in the continent’s economic transformation.”
The event expects nearly 400 African decision makers from governments, regulatory authorities, insurance and reinsurance companies, financial institutions, development banks, technical and financial partners, as well as professional organizations from across the continent.
The event’s ambition is to foster a shared vision and concrete commitments aimed at accelerating access to insurance for African populations while strengthening the sector’s contribution to the continents economic and social development priorities
FANAF officials said the insurance sector must evolve beyond its traditional role of risk protection to become a key driver of Africa's economic transformation.
Kone noted that insurance can help strengthen economic resilience, mobilize savings, secure investments, support small and medium-sized enterprises, facilitate climate adaptation and expand financial inclusion across the continent.
The organization announced that the General Assembly will culminate in the adoption of a Pan-African Pact for Insurance Inclusion, designed to align governments, regulators, insurers, financial institutions and development partners around a common agenda. The pact will be supported by a 2026-2030 Strategic Action Plan outlining priority areas, coordination mechanisms and accountability measures to ensure implementation.
According to FANAF, the gathering in Benin aims to create a platform for dialogue among public and private sector stakeholders to identify practical solutions for expanding insurance coverage in Africa. The organization said hosting the event in Benin reflects the country's growing economic and financial influence and will help position Cotonou 2026 as a landmark moment in advancing insurance inclusion across the continent.
