A professional home for science and environment journalists
The Kenya Environment and Science Journalists Association (KENSJA) is a non-political professional body that brings together environment and science journalists in Kenya. It works to strengthen journalism skills and build a stronger science culture through clear, accessible communication.
Our objectives
- Connect science journalists and support their professional development.
- Monitor science and environmental policy, and encourage both strong and responsible media coverage.
- Raise awareness of environmental, agricultural, and sustainable-development issues through accessible reporting.
- Serve as a hub for information and expertise in agriculture, environment, health, and development.
- Promote accurate, balanced, and development-focused communication.
What we do
KENSJA liaises with stakeholders to support training in science writing and communication. Its members undertake investigative reporting on the development and implementation of environmental and development policies and laws. The association also networks and exchanges information with like-minded organizations, research institutes, scientists, and other stakeholders to improve science communication in the region.
Connecting scientists and journalists
The association provides a platform for scientists to share research with journalists who are interested in science. By working together to explain research in accessible language, they can help prevent important findings from being obscured by technical jargon and support informed media discussion.
